2 years ago, when we started building Recoup, most record labels did not have an AI strategy. We built the Recoup web UI to focus 90% of attention as the first, and only, point of contact between record label team members and AI. We helped record label team members to mix AI with the APIs needed to do their job like Spotify, YouTube, and web search. We built a chat so record label team members could try out any model, get the best features from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Grok, and spend less time on the boring parts of building a record label.

Today, every record label is asking how they can continue to scale without increasing head count. Musicians use Claude Cowork to generate content from all the images on their computer instead of sitting in front of a camera all day. Managers have OpenAI Codex to update release documents and sync them with Google Drive. Everyone has their own Openclaw. Nobody wants to visit your website to chat with AI. Your web chat is inferior to the agents musicians already because your web chat

  • Can't access local file systems on a laptop (most important difference).

  • Lacks the personality and memory of a personal assistant.

  • Has bugs that make it frustrating to use.

We've decided it doesn't make sense to fight the trend of bring your own agent. Recoup was never going to be the best AI chat interface. We only built the web UI to support the reality that existed in 2024, when the only way to access ChatGPT was to visit the website. Instead, we've decided to lean in to this trend by making it as easy as possible for personal agents to use Recoup to fill in the gaps needed to build a record label.

Recoup Docs can be read by any LLM

Recoup offers a single, free, API key to give your agent(s) the most accurate, verbose, realtime data across the music industry. A personal agent can search the web, but general web search is inaccurate compared to Chartmetric's realtime data for playlist, streaming and audience data. A personal agent can make an image but it can't lookup the performance latest reels on Instagram to create viral hits that match existing style. A personal agent can setup tasks as long as your laptop is powered on, but doesn't know how to monitor your latest releases across social and streaming platforms in realtime to proactively manage release campaigns while you sleep.

While Recoup still looks the same today as it did yesterday, we'll be updating the web apps over the coming weeks. The main change you'll see is less web chat and more bring your own agent. Instead of forcing you to use our web chat, we'll be focusing the web UI on helping make your personal, local, assistant more capable of helping build a record label.
